Collective Bargaining

USMX serves as the collective bargaining representative for its member employers, negotiating and administering the Master Contract with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and providing a unified management voice on industry-wide labor matters.

FROM NEGOTIATION TO AGREEMENT

Collective bargaining brings labor and management together to negotiate the wages, benefits, working conditions, workplace protections, and other terms that govern the employment relationship. Through this process, USMX and the ILA establish the Master Contract that provides a common framework for the East and Gulf Coast waterfront.

Why Collective Bargaining Matters

Effective collective bargaining creates predictability for employers and workers while providing a framework to address change, resolve differences, and plan for the future. Strong labor-management agreements protect good-paying jobs, support efficient and competitive port operations, and provide the stability needed to keep American commerce moving.
